FEATURED ARTWORK from Book Illustrations, Thomas & Teresa, and Portrait galleries.
ILLUSTRATIONS of Thomas and Teresa from THDATE (project HERO).
The series began as a Secret Santa gift for a co-worker from work. The crew at the time was like a second family and I wanted my gift to be more personal then just a gift card. The first painting was well received so I decided to do one every year.
Each illustration contains elements from the world that Thomas and Teresa live in and personalized elements from the person that I had for Secret Santa that year. With each illustration I expanded Thomas and Teresa's world and the paintings became more and more complex.
After six years, due to change of management and turnover of staff, the tradition sadly came to an end. One day I hope to come back to Thomas and Teresa and continue their story.
ILLUSTRATIONS INSPIRED by various books and stories.
Young adult books and children stories are some of my favorite sources for inspiration. Rich with creative imagery they make for great resources. When reading through a book for a first time I keep a small pad of post-it notes nearby. When I come across an interesting passage or scene I mark it, sometimes even draw a quick sketch. By the time I finish the book the pages are littered with small post-it notes, nearly as thick as the book.
PORTRAITS OF ACTRESSES and actors drawn from various photoshoots and events. Also original characters from THDATE.
Small and quick, these little color and graphite sketches serve as exercises to help keep my observational and draftsmanship/painting skills sharp in between illustration and photography projects.
