ISSUE ONE | THE COSPLAY ZINE

RACHEL KEARNS has been participating in amateur, educational, and professional theatre productions since 2005 and has been cosplaying since 2007. After high school, she took a break from cosplay until 2015 to complete a BA in Technical Theatre and Design from SFSU and a Master of Fine Arts in Stage Design from The Lir at Trinity College Dublin. She now works in theatre and cosplays regularly.

Her gender-bend version of Present Mic (of My Hero Academia) is based on piece of fan art and is a mostly thrifted cosplay, consisting of pre-existing boots, jacket, belt, headphones, and gloves from Goodwill, with shorts, leotard, and wig from my closet. The speaker is made of foam core, poster board, and a plastic Christmas ornament, with styrofoam balls and clay accents. Foam shoulder pieces were added to the jacket and red accents added to the gloves and headphones with paint an elastic.
