SQUIDWARD: @VIANKA_COSPLAY
COSPLAY ZINE PROJECT
THE COSPLAY. I’m a HUGE Spongebob fan... I guess you could even call me obsessed after watching the first three seasons a countless number of times, for owning several Spongebob collectibles, and for even owning an authentic animation cel from the show. Last year, I thought it’d be fun for a group of us to cosplay as Man Ray, Dirty Bubble and Barnacle Boy. After seeing the amazing responses from other Spongebob fans, I thought of another Spongebob related cosplay to make, and that’s when Squidward came to mind. I wanted to make my Squidward cosplay refer to an iconic episode of the show, so I made Artist Squidward from the episode “Artist Unknown.”
Squidward’s head structure is made from paper maché and construction paper, covered with fabric. The eyes are made from white plastic mesh which allows me to see through them. The tentacles are shaped with foam and covered with fabric. All the black details are made from foam. The red beret, ribbon and yellow shirt were purchased from Amazon, and Bold and Brash was printed on canvas.
BIO. My brother dragged me to my first Fanime back in 2015 and I was blown away by the details and the amount of work that people put into their costumes. Ever since then, I decided that I was going to cosplay every time I would go to a con. It’s been about 4 years now of cosplaying and I love every minute I spend creating props and costumes and being in a cosplay. Becoming a character you love is something truly magical.
