COSPLAYER ANTHOLOGY
I've had this project in the back of my mind for a while, but it was solidified after seeing Mikey and Shelley literally destroy and dump their cosplays (some of which didn't even a proper shoot). As artists I can understand them wanting to move forward and make room for new work, but it was a shock none the less. I thought how nice it would've been to have a visual documentation of all their pieces that wasn't just a digital photo on their phones, but something that they could hold in their hands and look back upon years from now.
The project would consist of one shoot a month at the convention center. That little alcove that we did the Bioshock shoot has the most beautiful subdued light and it seems pretty consistent whether it's sunny or overcast, plus it's in the shade which will be a blessing for those hotter months.
I expect the shoot to be roughly around 30-40mins and will be shot mostly on digital, but I might bring my film camera too. It will consist of headshots, mid length, full length, costume and makeup detail. Each design will get approximately 20 pages. It'll be a slightly more streamlined version of the zine we did (more similar to the fanime annual spreads I've been posting). LIke the zine, they'll be pages for a write up on the design, two character quotes, and maybe a page or two for any wip photos you have.
In terms of cosplay/costume design choice, it's entirely up to you! After all it's an anthology of your art. It could be a showcase, highlighting your best/favorites, or chronological to show your growth and progress. I'm thinking of including at least 8 or more. I know it sounds like a lot, but it's a long term project that'll span over this year so it may include designs that you haven't even created yet. There’s no hard deadline, so it’ll be pretty low key, some months may need to be skipped due to schedules not lining up or you may need more time to finish a piece.
For your safety and peace of mind I'll be wearing a mask at the shoot. All the members in my household are vaccinated and all contact at work is always mask to mask. The only times I go out is to shoot with my camera outdoors.
Feel free to bring along somebody, a second eye for things I might miss is always welcomed. And as a thank you for collaborating on this project, you'll get an 8.5x11 print of a photo from each shoot and a printed copy of the final version of the anthology.
